Cyber Threats Are Growing – Are SMBs Underestimating the Risk?

Earlier this year, the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia released a concerning statistic: 45% of surveyed small businesses see cyber security threats as a low to non-existent risk.

Cyber-attacks on Australian companies are unfortunately increasing in frequency and complexity, and they are not just targeting large enterprises. In August, a relatively new ransomware group, “RansomHub” breached the networks of three Australian engineering firms.

To add insult to injury, not only were these businesses compromised and their operations disrupted, but significant volumes of their confidential data were stolen and leaked online. This included employee data, financial records, supplier/customer details, contracts, tenders and project files.

It is challenging for SMBs to “right-size” their response to cyber security. Under-invest and you could be leaving yourself exposed. On the other hand, enterprise cyber frameworks are often inaccessible for SMB. At ITMA, we walk with our clients on their #CyberSecurity journey to find the right balance. If you’re not confident about your cyber strategy, come and have a chat with us.
